ABOUT LABA LABA
Following in the careful footsteps of historic pioneers who made it possible to share the unforgettable experience of an African safari with the creation of national parks and game reserves at the end of the 19th century, LABA LABA offers guests effortless luxury in the modern concept of ‘slow safari’ at the lesser discovered nature reserves of Tanzania and their exclusive island retreat. LABA LABA means butterfly in Yoruba, their role to increase biodiversity in the African landscape and fauna, treasured and safeguarded in each tailor-made safari experience.
ABOUT LABA Ngorongoro Lodge
With breathtaking views of surrounding lush forest and the majestic Oldeania and Makroto mountains, just 40 minutes from Manyara airstrip, Laba Ngorongoro borders the crater's rim and is also the closest lodge to the park entrance. Steeped in history, the original Conservator's house of the former Rhino Lodge has been preserved as a tribute to Henry Albert Fosbrooke (1905-1996), the region's first ecologist who established the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The symbolic dwelling is now the reception, bar-lounge and boutique of Laba Ngorongoro Lodge. Luxury exudes in every detail of the 20 spacious and air-conditioned Deluxe Rooms with private lounge, dressing area and bathroom with underfloor heating offering both bathtub and shower as well as a terrace to capture the exceptional views. ABOUT Ngorongoro Conservation area
Laba Ngorongoro Lodge is a gateway to Ngorongoro’s wonders and the perfect base for those seeking adventure in the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, home to Africa’s Big Five - buffalo, elephants, rhinos, lions, and, with luck, elusive leopards. Beyond the abundant wildlife, the region’s stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity create an unforgettable experience. Engage with the Maasai and Hadzabe tribes, gaining insight into their ancient traditions. Explore Olduvai Gorge, the ‘Cradle of Humankind,’ and witness the mysterious Shifting Sands. These fascinating black sand dunes, revered by the Maasai as sacred, slowly shift under the influence of the wind at a pace of 15 to 29m per year. More than just a base for exploration, Laba Ngorongoro offers a deeply immersive stay, where nature, culture and history converge in one of Africa’s most extraordinary destinations.
Activities & SAFARI EXPERIENCES
The camp offers an incredible location to enjoy privately guided safaris and hikes within the conservation area along with the rich biodiversity of nearby Lake Manyara. For lovers of ancient relics, fascinating human ancestors, fossils and old tools can be discovered in the dramatic ravine of Olduvia Gorge’s living museum. The game package offers two safari activities each day, whether a 4x4 Safari Experience with private personal guide visiting a wide range of local landscapes and wildlife or a Walking Safari to follow wild animal footprints, fully immersing in the surrounding nature. A private day-long game drive with picnic lunch takes guests deep into the bush or Lake Manyara with a dedicated guide which is recommended during the Great Migration, travelling in a mythical old Land Rover, rebuilt but fuel-friendly to bring a touch of vintage charm to safari. There are half and full-day excursions to the Olduvia Gorge and The Shifting Sand Guests as well as a Masai village and adventurers can also glide over the bush in an exhilarating hot-air balloon safari at additional cost. With such extraordinary natural and cultural wonders, Laba Ngorongoro is not merely a starting point but a remarkable base for extended stays, allowing guests to fully absorb and appreciate the wealth of experiences it has to offer.
